In 2005, during the Holy Week, Fr Jose Thaiparambil SJ on his visit to one of his relatives then living in Chester. He celebrated Syro-Malabar liturgy during the Holy Week. He volunteered to celebrate Holy Qurbana on a regular basis once a month in St Werburg's Catholic Church, Chester. and thus Fr Jose celebrated Qurbana for the Chester-Ellesmere Port community till January 2006. In January 2006, Fr Saji Malayil Puthenpurayil who came to serve the diocese of Shrewsbury continued to celebrate Qurbana once a month every fourth Sunday. In 2014 celebration of Holy Qurbna was shifted to St Saviers Church, Ellesmere Port, due to practical considerations like the availability of parking in St Saviers.
On December 8, 2014 Rev. Dr Lonappan Arangassery MST who was proposed by the Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church was appointed Chaplain to Syro-Malabar Catholics in the diocese of Shrewsbury by Bishop Mark Davies of Shrewsbury with residence in St Joseph's Church, North Road, Birkenhead. Fr Lonappan Arangassery celebrated the first Holy Qurbana at St Savier's Church, Ellesmere port in January on the fourth Sunday. There are 25 families in this centre. Besides the regular Sunday Qurbana on the third Sunday at 7.15 p.m. , every year Rosary is conducted for 10 days in different families in the month of October. During the period of Great Fast, regularly Way of the Cross is conducted every Friday. On Good Friday pilgrimage is organised to St Winifred's Church, Holy Well.
